Missing Kirkwood Patroller found dead

The body of missing Kirkwood Mountain ski patroller, John Greever, was discovered in the Georgetown, area on 13 August, according to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s office. Georgetown is the northeastern-most town in the “California Mother Lode” territory, about 40 miles west of Lake Tahoe.

Greever, who had just turned 38 on 17 July, was a member of Kirkwood’s ski patrol and was a Georgetown resident. He had been missing since late morning on 3 August and according to a Tahoe Daily Tribune report, and left without his mobile phone, GPS watch, vehicle or his dog.

Kirkwood’s Vice President and General Manager, Tom Fortune, said, “John Greever was a valued member of the Kirkwood and Heavenly Ski Patrol. Kirkwood, Heavenly and the entire Vail Resorts team are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend and valued colleague, and extend our deepest sympathy to his family and friends.”

The sheriff’s office said there is no evidence to suggest foul play was a factor in the incident.
